Our Graduates: Best wishes!

2009

Perry Varnakovida finished his coursework for his Ph.D. and participated in commencement this summer. He took a faculty position at Lake Superior State University as an assistant professor of geographic information systems (GIS) in the Division of Chemistry, Environmental Sciences, Geology, and Physics; and will return from Sault Ste Marie, Michigan, to the temperate climate of East Lansing to defend his dissertation later this fall.

 

2008

Tara Lalonde completed her Master's Degree in May 2008, and was named one of the two Outstanding Geography Graduate Students of the year. She is now employed by Geo Eye in Dulles, Virginia, as a Production Systems Operator working with geospatial analysts to address imagery issues and serving as a liason between different departments.

 

Lindsay Campbell completed her Bachelor's degree Summer term 2008, having been named one of the Outstanding Geography Undergraduate Students of the year; and commenced work on her Master's immediately. Lindsay is a Research Assistant in the Remote Sensing Lab.

 

 

2007

Jenni van Ravensway finished her Master's Degree(Geography) in the Fall of 2007. She is currently on staff here at the Center, working in the Remote Sensing Lab.

Dr. Jianjun Ge (pictured with his wife Xiaorong Liu and son Jeffrey) received his PhD in Geography in May 2007 and accepted a faculty position at Oklahoma State University. He and Dr. Qi recently submitted a grant proposal to the National Science Foundation to study the climatic impacts of woody plant encroachment on the Southern Great Plains.

Dr. Nathan Torbick also received his PhD in Geography in May and is now working with Applied GeoSolutions in New Hampshire. Nate is a co-Investigator on a proposal Dr. Qi submitted for NASA funding to develop remote sensing methods for algae information retrieval of inland lakes.

 

2006

photo of Yasuyo Makido Dr. Yasuyo Makido received her PhD (Geography) in December of 2006 and is now working at the Global Carbon Project offices in Tsukuba, Japan.

 

 

photo of Naren Kodanapani Dr. Naren Kodanapani, who received his PhD in 2006, is now teaching at Grays Harbor College in Aberdeen, Washington.
